SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic .- The Vice President and presidential candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Rafael Alburquerque, declined on Friday to their aspirations to the Presidency of the Republic and decided to support Danilo Medina.

explained that his decision was taken on to the danger posed by the return of the Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD) to power. "The threat of the return of chaos, disorder and anxiety that the country experienced from 2000 to 2004 under a PRD government, is a dangerous reality that affect the quality of life for most people."
accused the PRD's presidential candidate, Hipolito Mejia, seek to eliminate social programs implemented by the PLD government and trying to review international agreements, a situation that would cause distrust in the country and consequently affect economic stability. Alburquerque said that the DLP should immediately select their presidential candidate and unite in this proposal.
reiterated his concern of the decision by several LDP leaders to sit idle in the current internal process, and that such action would lead to a purple party anticipated defeat in elections in 2012. "Today more than ever it is imperative that the Dominican Liberation Party to mobilize, to act, that their bases are on the streets, because under no circumstances, interests may prevail over the national interest to preserve the work in progress and development we have done during the past seven years in office, "he said.
